Through the efforts of Lorry Jarvis and Sue-Anne Nicol the Brogo Rural Fire Service has received an NRMA Community Help grant of $2,700. and on Wednesday 12 May some members were at the NRMA office in Bega to thank the principal, Mr Leo Papalia, for his support of their submission.

Bega District News reported:

Mr Papalia said he was glad to help the volunteer fire fighters as "I regard them and all they do as vitally important for the community".

"Before I lived in the country I had not idea that so many people volunteered so much of their time working and training as firefighters," Mr Papalia said.

He congratulated Brogo firefighter Ms Sue-Anne Nicol on the submission she wrote and which he was happy to support.

Mr Laurie Jarvis, also with the brigade, said the money would be used to buy four special nozzles for the brigade's hoses.

He said the Brigade had been called out twice in the past week, and because of its closeness to Brogo Pass and the Brogo Bridge they had to attend a large number of fires and often, such as when an oil tanker overturned at the bridge, spent all night on the job.
