Why?
Knitting is one of the skills we are rapidly losing with successive generations.
Over the past few decades we've seen the transition from handcrafted sweaters and other knitted clothing to mass produced imported goods for a fraction of the price - and quality.
Knitting groups are about more than just producing high quality garments. It's a good way of discussing community issues, getting to know one another, meeting some of our newer community members and sharing knowledge.
Our aim is to revive some of those skills and knitting may only be the first step in a long journey...
Where and When?
We aim to meet monthly.
Meetings will take place at Brogo Fire Station on Warrigal Range Road.
Notices of meetings will be advised on the blackboard at the fire station when space permits, and also at the ABC southeast's local events diary
Next meeting will take place on Wednesday 8 December at 7pm. Bring your patterns, any projects in progress or any knitting problems and we might be able to help you solve it.
Samples of our Work
Soon we'll start a gallery when we have photos of work completed by members of the group.
In the meantime, these are two cardigans Vicki knitted for her nieces, Kate and Lara.
Kate favours pink and hers is knitted in pinks, reds and oranges with a heart and miniature houses detail.
Lara's is inspired by Jenny Kee designs and features aussie icons such as boomerangs, Sydney Opera House, Ayers Rock, barbed wire fences, gumnut babies and a sturt desert pea.
